Press release: Bring Abdul Hussein Shukri back to Norway

Press release from The support network for Afghan refugees and Afghan refugees in Norway
Time: 2006-07-04 17:30

BRING ABDUL HUSSEIN SHUKRI BACK TO NORWAY!

The support network for Afghan refugees is reacting strongly against the notice in Dagbladet 04.06.06 regarding the Afghan asylum seeker Abdul Hussein Shukri. Shukri is now in the situation that we were warning about when we were protesting when he was about to deported. He does not have any network or any possibility of establishment in Afghanistan, and is fearing for his life.

This is a tragic example of the authorities’ politics and the consequenecs of the goverments breach of the agreement that was the base of the ending of the hunger strike. It has now been shown that Shukri did not have a network in real terms in Kabul, something that could have been ascertained if the immigration goverment had taken the time to review the case, according to the promises that were given.

In the situation that has now arised, it is the Norwegian authorities duty and responsibility to bring Shukri back to Norway, and make sure he is treated according to the agreement about persons like him should not be deported in 2006. In this case there is no doubt that the deportation was unjustifiable and against the recommendations from the UNCHR and the governments promises. We therefore hope that the refugee organizations in Norway will support us in this claim.

The support network and afghan refugees in Norway is aslo calling on the Ministry of Labour and Inclusion to compose new, distinct, guidelines to the Immigration Appeals Bord (UNE) that pledges the board to follow the agreement that the goverment gave. The government can not continue to deny it’s responsibility by refering to their own statements in the press, while UNE is not pledged to follow the governments politics.

Zahir Athari, spokesperson for the Afghan refugees and leader of The support network for Afghan refugees.
